The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy at Riverview Theater

Director Peter Jackson created something genuinely amazing with his three-film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy masterwork. Epic in scale without losing a human touch, the films hewed more closely to the source novels than one might have thought possible for a Hollywood-bankrolled blockbuster trilogy, netting a well-deserved Oscar sweep for the third installment, The Return Of The King. The Riverview’s all-day Christmastime screening of the trilogy, now in its fifth year, is also epic in scale—with the extended DVD versions of The Fellowship Of The Ring and The Two Towers, followed by the three-hour "short" version of King. That’s 630 minutes’ worth of film unspooling over the course of the day, broken up by some much-needed leg-stretching intermissions. Fellowship plays at 10:45 a.m., Two Towers at 2:45 p.m., and Return Of The King at 7:10 p.m.
