Low + Jaws at Lake Harriet Bandshell
The granddaddy of summer blockbusters, Steven Spielberg’s Jaws may have changed the face of the industry for the worse, but the film itself offers compensation by showing a great visual storyteller at the height of his powers. To his technical and aesthetic advantage, Spielberg keeps his rubber shark in the water until the final third, relying instead on the suggestive effects of a single fin and John Williams’ unforgettable score. Minimalist Duluth indie-rock trio Low plays before this open-air screening. The band has been relatively quiet lately as leader Alan Sparhawk's been putting energy into side project Retribution Gospel Choir, but word is that he's been working on new material for a follow-up to 2007's smoldering Drums And Guns.
