Lucinda Williams at First Avenue
The bride, we're guessing, will wear white. The venue, as always, will wear black with silver stars. Alt-country singer Lucinda Williams has picked an unforgettable way to kick off her 30th-anniversary tour—she's getting married onstage at First Avenue during her show. (Tom Overby, the groom, is a former Best Buy executive with family in the Twin Cities.) Over her three-decade career, Williams has strenuously avoided getting pinned down to genre, spanning rock, folk, and country with fluid disregard for marketing-friendly labels. On albums like 2007’s West, she traded the crossover anthems of her classic Car Wheels On A Gravel Road for something starker and straighter. Last year’s Little Honey is a trickier to sum up, taking in happy, loose country kick-arounds alongside delicately arranged ballads.
