Manchester Orchestra, The Features, Biffy Clyro, and Oh Brother at Varsity Theater

Lots of bands pop up in high school, and nearly all qualify as “indie rock,” because the average fan base consists of whoever is packed into their friends’ basement that night. Then there’s Manchester Orchestra, which followed its muse more loyally than most: Frontman Andy Hull opted for home-schooling his senior year to focus on the group’s music. The results couldn’t have been better: The Orchestra’s debut full-length, 2006's I’m Like A Virgin Losing A Child, is full of brainy storytelling overlaid with rousing, raw hooks. The group is currently working on its third album, the tentatively titled Let Go Of Your Sorrowful Groaning, further proving that Hull’s in it for the long haul.
