Marcy Playground and Stealing Seconds at Fine Line Music Cafe
There are many good candidates for decade-defining anthems from the ’90s. And like so many others, Marcy Playground’s “Sex And Candy” was a casually downtrodden alt-rock ballad that climbed up the charts despite (or because of) its bleary-eyed sexual imagery and jaded juxtapositions like “There she was, like disco super fly… Mama this surely is a dream.” While the band faced the sophomore curse later in its career, that one song has had enough staying power to merit a full-fledged 2009 tour, a solid new album in Leaving Wonderland... In A Fit Of Rage, and no doubt plenty of ’90s nostalgia to impart.
