Never Shout Never, Meg & Dia, Now, Now, and Carter Hussley at Station 4
In case the eternal optimism of his alias isn’t a tip-off, Never Shout Never’s Christofer Drew is one upbeat dude. His buoyant, occasionally ukulele-backed folk-pop—with telling song titles like “Happy” and “On The Brightside”—traffics primarily in puppy-love romanticism and cheer-up-Charlie positivity, and comes collected in releases with equally sunny names like The Yippee EP and The Summer EP. Apparently it’s a welcome antidote to the hormonal mopiness of modern emo (suggesting today’s kids would rather whistle than whine): Like the similarly lovey-dovey, fellow MySpace success story Owl City, Never Shout Never had an incredibly short run from self-releasing to a major-label bidding war, resulting in his Butch Walker-produced Warner Bros. debut, What Is Love?.
