Passion Pit at Triple Rock Social Club
Passion Pit’s first single, “Sleepyhead,” was a dreamy bit of electro-pop, impossibly dense but perfectly leavened by frontman Michael Angelakos’ high-pitched warble of a voice. The band’s recently released debut album, Manners, is more an exercise in baroque disco than delicate songcraft—a children’s choir figures on nearly half of the songs, which doesn’t exactly foster subtlety—but the result is impossibly jubilant, earning as many comparisons to Jackson 5 as to MGMT. It’s totally capable of causing spontaneous episodes on the dance floor, and it promises to accelerate Passion Pit’s already swift rise to the top of the indie heap.
