Remember in 2009, when only six months after forming, Postina made it to the finals in the Cities 97 Basilica Block Party Battle Of The Bands? Neither do we, but fans of the Minneapolis alt-pop rock band probably do. Postina’s contagiously hooky and energetic pop approach to rock ’n’ roll paired with the balmy vocals of songstress Joelle Benson make liking Postina an easy jump. It’s likable music, with solid lyricism and a radio-friendly ease and bounce that explains why the band was RAW Minneapolis’ 2011 “Musician Of The Year.” Sure, Postina’s not making any dangerous moves into the unknown—this is pop music—so plan accordingly. Postina brings a bit more substance to the game, though, and its sophomore release, Nero, is proof of that.
