Rascal Flatts and Darius Rucker at Xcel Energy Center

The disdain directed at Hootie And The Blowfish back in the ’90s was always a little perplexing. Yes, the South Carolina bar band was a little dull, and it had a horrible name. But for the most part, Hootie was harmless and endearingly humble. The most grating thing about the band was lead singer Darius Rucker’s overbearing vocals, which made the likes of “Hold My Hand” and “Let Her Cry” flat-out unbearable for detractors. Rucker has since toned down the histrionics a bit, and is now making a go as a country singer with last year’s Learn To Live. It’s a sad contrast to headliners Rascal Flatts, three purty country boys with a knack for creamy harmonies.
