Rock The Halls: Miracle On Washington Avenue at 501 Club
Psychedelic rock and '60s retro mod-rock both are in the current ascendancy of nostalgic music, but neither are ever completely out of season—especially not when you can add a "tis the" to "season," as these half-dozen Twin Cities bands are doing at the 501, knocking out a night full of holiday covers and yuletide rock. The Nightinghales are probably the most straight-up rockers of the bunch, channeling The Kinks, early Rolling Stones, and The Velvet Underground on their recent disc No Looking Back. Psychedelic droners Sun In The Satellite prefer longer, groovier sonic meanderings, and Come Fizzy Dolphin teams two interestingly juxtaposed talents, Mark McGee of To Kill a Petty Bourgeoisie and Jacob Grunn of Me and My Arrow. The freewheeling holiday show will also celebrate the release of a split single by psych-rockers Flavor Crystals and Autumn Leaves frontman David Beckey.
