Roy Ayers at Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant

A veteran whose legacy stretches from jazz to hip-hop, Roy Ayers started out as a bebop vibraphonist in the ’60s before moving on to weird, cosmic R&B and various other fusion forms. His résumé includes the ’70s group Ubiquity, collaborations with Fela Kuti, the soundtrack to the classic Pam Grier blaxploitation flick Coffy, and a store of songs that have been sampled by hip-hop and acid-jazz artists an untold number of times. Ayers' most recent release, 2008's Live At Arturo's, includes some of his most popular tracks like "Poo Poo La La" and "Everybody Loves The Sunshine," which has been sampled by Tupac, Mary J. Blige, Common, and Naughty By Nature. Expect a moving, grooving set here.
