Schoolboy Q, The Tribe And Big Cats, and AudioPerm at Varsity Theater

In the constantly shifting Minneapolis hip-hop scene, smooth as silk act The Tribe And Big Cats! have somehow successfully carved themselves out a sound territory unique from everything else going on. How? They know how to work the hook with energy. MC TruthBeTold’s flow is able to cut alongside most of what his two producers Aye Yo Pete and Big Cats! are throwing at him, and he seems to have a knack for delivery, with a voice that sounds streamlined and effortless. Their new EP, Make Good, the follow-up to the full-length Forward Thinkers, Movers, Shakers, is a whip-smart release, packed with head-phone fodder and impeccable production. The release’s natural single, “The Good Life,” featuring Smoke DZA, even has a Jason Ho directed video with a TruthBeTold child version. (Think the Spike Jonze video for Notorious B.I.G.’s “Sky’s The Limit.”)
