Sister Hazel and Matt Duke at Fine Line Music Cafe
Sister Hazel’s brief flirtation with success in the mid-’90s didn’t go far beyond a couple of harmony-rich alt-rock singles. Since then, the Florida band has been content to reside in relative obscurity, with its fans (the endearingly named “Hazelnuts”) providing moral support. In recent years, the group has done the live-acoustic thing (2008's Before The Amplifiers), not to mention the holiday-album grind (2007's Santa’s Playlist). But in 2009, Sister Hazel returned to the studio to record its seventh proper full-length, Release, at the same time changing things up by sharing the songwriting duties previously tasked to frontman Ken Block.
