Stones And Bones and My Empty Phantom at Terminal Bar
Sure, Austin's Jesse Beaman might have some maturing ahead of him, but the instrumental music he makes as My Empty Phantom combines ambient music's fizzy echoes and post-rock's blustery melodies with a lack of pretension that runs counter to both. Though he plays and loops several instruments, Beaman often keeps stately yet straightforward piano compositions and/or acoustic guitar at the front of the mix, letting the weirder sounds quietly brew in little gaps and background spaces. "Will The World Grow On," for example, is an instrumental rock tune that isn't afraid to just be a rather simple (though nicely layered) guitar piece at heart.
