Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, and Kutt Calhoun at Epic
Kansas City rapper Tech N9ne spent years bouncing from one record label to the next, receiving underground praise and invitations to record with a host of better-known rappers, including Tupac and RZA. His diligence has started to pay back dividends: 2008’s Killer topped 100,000 in sales, winning fans for Tech’s mix of machine-gun delivery, orchestra-hit hip-hop, and silky R&B backups—not to mention guestwork from Ice Cube, Scarface, and Paul Wall. He followed in 2009 with Sickology 101, a side-project disc teaming him with labelmates and other Kansas talent.
