Telefon Tel Aviv and The Race at 7th Street Entry
Telefon Tel Aviv started out in the soupy space that sprang up between post-rock and electronic music in the late '90s, with ties to the "scene" in Chicago and a sound that made sense of proclivities for both songs and atmospheres. The group put out a couple of full-lengths on Hefty before making a big move to the Berlin-based dance-music label Bpitch Control (run by DJ/producer Ellen Allien) for a 2009 album called Immolate Yourself. Tragedy struck, however, when bandmember Charles Cooper was found dead in January, from causes mostly unknown (an accident involving a sleeping pill and a little champagne is as much as can be surmised from public statements). Now, founding member Joshua Eustis is on tour with a new partner, Fredo Nogueira.
