A Tribute To The Replacements: Celebrating The 25th Anniversary Of Let It Be at First Avenue
In a clear case of good timing, local musicians will pack the stages of First Avenue and the Entry on the day after Thanksgiving to show their gratitude for The Replacements. The evening not only celebrates the 25th anniversary of the band's landmark album Let It Be, but also the paperback release of Jim Walsh's oral history, The Replacements: All Over But The Shouting. Paul Westerberg's deeply influential alt-rock tunes will be reinterpreted by more than a dozen diverse bands, from singer-songwriters Jeremy Messersmith and Martin Devaney to an intriguing collaboration between electronic duo Lookbook and psychedelic-tinged thrash trio Brutal Becomings. Anchoring the evening is the ad hoc Let It Be House Band (featuring members of The Melismatics, The Honeydogs, Heiruspecs, Gospel Gossip, and more), which is rumored to be finishing the night by playing the album in its entirety.
