Twin Cities Improv Festival: The Reckoning at Brave New Workshop
Improv troupe names are always something of a misnomer, but in The Reckoning's case, it hints at the troupe's awe-inspiring sweep. It's not an ideal group to see for the average improv-newbie who wanders in drunk on a whim, but—in the least pretentious way possible—it's perfect for someone who's grown weary of the standard Harold. The long-running group's personnel is sizable at nine people, and though there isn't a single slouch among them, Pat O'Brien is frequently a stand-out crowd favorite. (His jump to Saturday Night Live's writing team last year speaks to his breakout talent.) The Twin Cities Improv Festival, running June 24-27, is packed with groups trying to provide the unexpected, but The Reckoning accomplishes refreshing unpredictability twice a week.
