The Wedding Present and Girl In A Coma at 400 Bar
The Wedding Present has weathered numerous lineup changes since forming in the mid-’80s, and leader David Gedge even retired the name for a while, but the English group has been going strong since emerging from hibernation in 2004. The jangly indie-pop outfit quickly got back to work, releasing Take Fountain in 2005 and the Steve Albini-assisted El Rey in 2008, and though Gedge has never shied away from the classics in concert, he and the band devote their current tour to The Wedding Present's stellar breakthrough LP, 1989's Bizarro. Though named after a Smiths song, Girl In A Coma skews more punk. The group explores its non-Moz influences with a new series of three 7-inch EPs called Adventures In Coverland, which includes tunes by Selena, David Bowie, and Ritchie Valens.
