The idea with Ween must be to always keep people on guard, though against what is never quite clear. The kind of people who make ridiculous, near-gibberish pop like "Push Th' Little Daisies" aren't supposed to have actual songwriting talent, vocal range, or reserves of convincing tenderness, but Ween somehow has all that. Though some fans complain that the band's live show has become too jammy in recent years, "brothers" Dean and Gene Ween have a ton to draw on, from the solid genre exercise 12 Country Golden Greats to the jolly screwball ramblings of The Mollusk to their latest studio album, the typically all-over-the-place La Cucaracha. Even if the songs have stayed mischievous over the years, Ween still don't have much trouble tricking people into genuinely loving them.
