West Bank Revival at West Bank Social Center

For more than half a century, the West Bank neighborhood near the University of Minnesota's western campus has been a vibrant incubator for local music, particularly the shaggy folk scene that emerged in the 1960s. (See Cyn Collins' book West Bank Boogie, an indispensable document of the neighborhood's contribution to Twin Cities music.) The inaugural two-day West Bank Revival explicitly celebrates that history, gathering more than 40 musicians and other performers in a celebration of the area's past and look ahead toward its future, including veterans like piano wizard Willie Murphy and younger torch-bearers like Hud and The Knotwells. Besides performances at Acadia Café, Nomad Pub, Red Sea, and Bedlam Theater, the newly opened West Bank Social Center (located above the Nomad) will serve as an informational nexus point, offering spoken-word history and an exhibit of vintage photos. The $5 cover grants access to all participating venues. For complete schedule details, see frontporchsitter.com/westbankrevival.
