San Francisco-based psych-rock act Young Prisms officially formed in 2009, but its members had been making music together in an unofficial capacity for several years prior. The informality of those origins shows through the band’s shoegazing shamble—made all the more shambolic by the fact that no one comes to the band with any formal music training. Mournful, wailing tracks like “Sugar” and “Eleni” have drawn comparisons to My Bloody Valentine’s most ethereal hits, and the rest of the debut LP, Friends For Now, does well to capture a lo-fi stoner vibe.
