Profile
Kyle Ryan (Managing Editor, @Kyle_Ryan) has two first names and can never tell if people are simply confused when they call him "Ryan," or if they're one of those last-name users. He grew up in Houston, where he attended an all-male, Jesuit-run high school that quickly turned him into an anti-authoritarian smartass—i.e., someone perfectly suited for a future career at The A.V. Club. At 16, he discovered punk rock and began interviewing bands, and he pretty much hasn't stopped since. After graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia's journalism school in 1998, he moved to Chicago, where he steadfastly retains his allegiance to the Astros and lives with his wife and orange tabby.

"Primmer" is how we call it in the office. And that's how you say Hüsker Dü's name—see the umlauts.

In the intro, we talk about this week (which didn't have a ton in the way of new releases) being slow & indicative of things being slow in general.

We originally covered Gems because we weren't doing Best Show. Now that we are, there's not really a reason to do the Gems—The Best Show is a time commitment enough as it is!

Crushes on fictional characters
It's a tough call for me. There's a photo of Tyra & Tami together at some Hollywood event, and I was just wishing I could be between them.

“Performance Artist”
Ah, that makes a hell of a lot more sense. Serves me right for taking French instead of Latin. I would've used the captions, but alas, Netflix streaming doesn't offer 'em.
