A.V. Undercover: The Day Of The Dead

Adam Torres covers The Drifters
About This Episode

For our special Day Of The Dead edition of Undercover, we’re asking bands to cover songs by artists who have passed away. Adam Torres came to the office this week and gave us an appropriately ghost-like rendition of “This Magic Moment,” first recorded by The Drifters (with Ben E. King, who died last year). Torres’ haunting voice, backed by Aisha Burns on violin and the inimitable Thor Harris on percussion, amplifies and isolates the sadness in the 1960 hit. Torres’ recent album, Pearls To Swine, is his first in a decade, and is out now on Fat Possum Records.

  • Surprise! It’s a brand new A.V. Undercover subseries, just for you. The Day Of The Dead edition celebrates the music of artists who have left this mortal coil in recent years. Leading up to the Mexican holiday, we’ll have several Day Of The Dead Undercover videos—presented by El Jimador Tequila.
