A.V. Undercover: Summer Break

Destroyer covers Gorky's Zygotic Mynci

Happiness is so hard to find.

About This Episode

It sorta makes sense that Destroyer mainman Dan Bejar would reach for a beautiful obscurity for Undercover Summer Break--he's kind of a beautifully obscure guy. Bejar and the full Destroyer touring band chose to play "Face Like Summer" by the Welsh band Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, who put out a string of solid albums in the '90s and aughts before splitting up. For our location, we ventured up to Milwaukee to visit Turner Hall, where we planned to film in a small upstairs room of the beautiful old venue. But the song sounded better with everybody playing, and not everybody could fit comfortably, so we retreated to the Turner Hall stage. (Not too shabby a location itself.) Thanks to Andrew and Marc at Turner for having us--enjoy the cover, and check out the original below.
