A.V. Undercover

GWAR salutes AC/DC with some very special Election Day guests
About This Episode

GWAR has been a highlight of every Undercover season since 2012, when they helped us bid farewell to the old round room with a rough-and-ready rendition of Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son.” We thought we’d seen the end of the band after their 2013 appearance—after singer Oderus Urungus passed from this earthly realm—but they stomped their way back into our hearts in 2014 with a touching rendition of Jim Carroll’s “People Who Died,” complete with tribute lyrics to Oderus and other friends. This year, they decided what they wanted to play without consulting our list, which is honestly just fine with us. The choice: AC/DC’s “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It),” but with an extra intro courtesy of Boston’s “Foreplay.”

Oh, and you’ll notice that GWAR brought along a couple of special friends in honor of the brutally GWAR-like election season we’ve been through. Stick around and see if your favorite candidate takes the cake, and then make sure you get out and vote.

And one more thing: GWAR will be releasing a special picture disc on Black Friday called simply “Black Friday,” and it will feature a pair of their Undercover sessions! On the “Oderus” side, it’s Billy Ocean’s “Get Out Of My Dreams, Get Into My Car” and The Who’s “Baba O’Riley.” On the “Blothar” side, it’s Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls” along with that special rendition of “People Who Died.” It’s a Record Store Day release, and strictly limited edition, so start lining up early. Two more regular series Undercovers remain for 2016; see you next week.
