When he’s not busy drumming in Superchunk, The Mountain Goats, and Bob Mould’s band, Jon Wurster is half of Scharpling & Wurster, the comedy duo whose conversations were recently collected in the insanely mega box set Scharpling & Wurster: The Best Of The Best Show. (Seriously—16 CDs, a massive hardbound book, and more!) One of Wurster’s best-known Best Show characters is Philly Boy Roy, the massively obnoxious Philadelphian whose insistent boostering of his hometown is hilariously specific. But when Philly Boy showed up to cover Styx’s “Renegade” while on tour—with Chicago band Fake Limbs in tow—he seemed ready to show some respect for Chicago. Little did we know... (Watch for a special appearance by Tastykakes.) If this all sounds like gibberish, you might want to spend 45 minutes with this.
