Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano, the minds behind HBO’s animated series Animals, stopped by The A.V. Club booth at SXSW this year ahead of the March 17 premiere of the show’s second season. Given their penchant for lending funny and idiosyncratic (and very human) personalities to the animals that populate New York City, we decided to enlist their help in looking at a few pictures of adorable animals and coming up with histories for each of them. They were happy to help—and the results got dirty awfully quickly.
