11 Things I Hate About You, or something with a better title, is in development, says the original's director.

10 more Things I Hate About You in the works

I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big, dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind. But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate—not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all—that there’s no sequel to 10 Things I Hate About You.

Well, that’s in the process of changing. Per People, 10 Things director Gil Junger is looking for more things he hates about you, and he’s landed on a trilogy sequel to the teen movie about a bitter teen girl, her popular sister, and the combat boot-wearing boy who agrees to date the bitter girl for money. The first follow-up, 10 Things I Hate About Dating, is “definitively in the works as a feature film,” the director says. It’s also the first part of a trilogy, with 10 Things I Hate About Marriage and 10 Things I Hate About Kids to follow. Considering the original was an adaptation of the immortal Bard’s Taming Of The Shrew, Junger says 10 Things I Hate About Dating is based on Molière’s 1666 play, The Misanthrope.

Junger says the sequel is for an older audience, which makes sense since the original film came out [gulp] 26 years ago. He also hasn’t started casting yet, but “would love to work with [Julia Stiles] again” and would “love Larry Miller to come back, because he’s so great.” If this is indeed a Miller joint, expect the B.O. to be boffo. When asked if there will be a “nod” to the late Heath Ledger, who co-starred in the original. Thinking on his feet, Junger said, “I think that’s a beautiful idea, and the answer is now going to be yes. He deserves to be loved.”

This isn’t the only thing coming to the 10 Things-iverse. Two weeks ago, news broke that Lena Dunham and Carly Rae Jepsen were adapting the film to Broadway. But until then, let us all sleep the deep slumber of a father whose daughters aren’t out being impregnated.
