Amazon delves into real-life terror with a TV version of horror podcast Lore

Amazon used its New York Comic Con panel Thursday afternoon to announce a new, unscripted venture: a series based on the podcast Lore, which deep dives into the origin stories of horror mythologies. Lore host Aaron Mahnke and The Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd came out on stage to tease the unscripted project, which Hurd explained will combine “historical mixed media, narration and reenactments” to tell its tales. “We’re going to examine the truth behind the legends of the horror genre,“ she said, noting that show will explore vampires, werewolves, zombies, ghosts, serial killers, and other things that go bump in the night. Glen Morgan, of X-Files fame, is on board as showrunner, a reveal that provoked applause from the audience. Mahneke described how Morgan reached out to him as a fan of the podcast, and that led to their collaboration on the TV version.

Lore will debut in 2017. During Comic-Con the streaming service also plugged its upcoming scripted fare: the newly picked up The Tick and the Giovanni Ribisi starrer Sneaky Pete.
