Arcade Fire asks you to "relax" about the dress code thing, watch its new video while wearing whatever
This week Arcade Fire ruffled some feathers by suggesting attendees at its upcoming tour dates maybe wear some ruffles, as opposed to the protective coating of Ruffles crumbs that forms their usual attire. The request to “please wear formal attire or costume”—including “suits, dinner jackets, masks, and even full costume”—followed on the back of several intimate club dates where that dress code was deemed mandatory, so the implication was that arena concertgoers might face the same restrictions, even in a place that serves Cheez Whiz-slathered pretzel bites. Angry comments were posted, Slate think pieces were composed, and now, the band has come forward with a statament on its Facebook page, asking everyone to please allow their cheap, probably tattered panties to come unbunched:
To everyone really upset about us asking people to dress up at our shows… please relax. It's super not mandatory. It just makes for a more fun carnival when we are all in it together. So far these have been the best shows we have ever played.
See you soon.
Love, Arcade Fire
Meawhile, the band also released an official video for “Afterlife,” which you don't even have to wear pants to watch (even though we humbly request that you do).
