The Onion and A.V. Club present (Just Another) Manic Monday, a beautiful blowout at Austin’s Red 7 on Monday, March 16, featuring Courtney Barnett, Real Estate, Wooden Wisdom: Elijah Wood & Zach Cowie, METZ, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Hamilton Leithauser, East India Youth, Hippo Campus, and more. From 4 p.m. until midnight or so, The Onion and The A.V. Club bring to life the greatest SXSWi-adjacent party of 2015, with help from our friends at TGI Fridays. And it’s FREE.
Doors will open at 3:30 p.m., and we’ll have music—including some guest DJs—from 4 p.m. through midnight. The full schedule is below: Please note that Real Estate is playing on the early side, so we’re anticipating some early crowds. TGI Fridays will be on hand to satisfy appetites with free appetizers and refreshments from 4:30-6:30 p.m., and they’ll be presenting a cheeky “Gallery Of The Neighborhood Bar” exhibit.
We couldn’t be more excited about the musical lineup: Australian rocker Courtney Barnett will surely be the toast of Austin this year, since her excellent debut album Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit will be released the following week. New Jersey’s Real Estate are taking a victory lap after last year’s fantastic Atlas. METZ will crush eardrums with their intense punk, and Hamilton Leithauser—formerly of The Walkmen—will chill things out in a two-piece lineup.
Inside, we’ll have special guest DJs Elijah Wood and Zach Cowie, known collectively as Wooden Wisdom. The duo describes their sound as “paradise garage.”
Rounding out the bill are fierce New York rockers Cymbals Eat Guitars, lush soundscape artist Son Lux, and a pair of awesome Midwestern pop bands: Minneapolis’ Hippo Campus and Chicago’s The Inventors.
