Ben McKenzie says yeah, sure, you could talk him into an O.C. revival

This is per Deadline, reporting on a radio interview McKenzie was giving this week to promote his documentary (which, among other things, involved the hosts having to guess who he was from his voice before getting to the actual interview—not an ordeal we assume most documentarians have to weather). Although clearly there to promote the actual project he’s spent the last several years of his life on, McKenzie was also perfectly game to talk about the Ryan Atwood of it all, confirming that, while “I don’t know that there has ever been serious talks,” about getting the old Cohen crew back together, “I’d be up for it, sure.”

“Under the right circumstances,” McKenzie then quickly added. “It was a great show. We had a great time. I learned a lot. I was so young, we were all young.” (Later, while signing off—and after declaring a definitive “bullshit” verdict on crypto—McKenzie gave a joking “Let’s make it happen” to the revival demands.) 

Modern pop culture journalism being what it is, pretty much every cast member of The O.C. has been asked these questions semi-incessantly for the last decade, with most of them sharing McKenzie’s “Nobody wants to make waves” willingness to say “Sure!” in a distinctly non-committal fashion. (Our favorite:  Adam Brody, who once said it’d require “a really inspired idea” for him to come back, before clarifying that “And by ‘inspired idea,’ I mean lots and lots of money.”) And, of course, they can make all these statements in the safe knowledge that series creator Josh Schwartz has said that a revival is almost certainly never going to happen, telling interviewers in 2024 that “We’re just going to leave the O.C. story there.”
