Blur to release a reunion documentary to go with its latest reunion album
On the heels of its first studio album in 12 years, Blur has announced the release of a documentary about the “unintended recording sessions” in Hong Kong that lead to 2015’s The Magic Whip. Rolling Stone reports that the film will focus on “three pivotal events” in recent Blur history: There’s the band’s 2013 trip Hong Kong, its celebratory return after the album’s debut, and the “homecoming” Hyde Park concert in London. The documentary takes its title from a track off The Magic Whip, which The A.V. Club deemed a solid effort from the band that retained its “intangible chemistry.”
New World Towers is the second Blur documentary film, following 2010’s No Distance Left To Run, which featured previously unseen live and archival footage. The film will hit U.K. theaters on December 2, but the international rollout is still being worked out. And if that news isn’t enough to satisfy your Damon Albarn-related interests, he told Rolling Stone in a separate interview that a new Gorillaz album is in already its “very early days.
