A flurry of bullets is expected in Normal, the new snowy action-comedy starring Bob Odenkirk, Lena Headey, and Henry Winkler.

Bob Odenkirk reloads for more action-comedy in the trailer for Normal

Bob Odenkirk must be enjoying his late-career pivot to action movies. Again teaming with Derek Kolstad, the creator of John Wick and Nobody, Odenkirk returns to the way of the gun in Normal, a snow-blind action comedy that adds a small sprinkle of Fargo to his run of actioners. Directed by Ben Wheatley (High-Rise and Free Fire), who describes the movie as rooted in classic westerns like High Noon, the movie leans even more into Odenkirk’s ornery persona as the new sheriff of a small town where idiots keep killing each other.

Here’s the synopsis:

“For Sheriff Ulysses (Odenkirk), his provisional posting to the quaint Midwestern American town of Normal was meant to be a welcome respite from both his marital woes and recent moral injuries in the line of duty. But when a botched bank robbery interrupts the municipality’s tranquil pace, a dark secret is inadvertently exposed, and Ulysses soon discovers that the town is anything but its namesake.”

Nobody also stars a couple of Sunday night HBO heavyweights: Lena Heady and Henry Winkler as the Normal mayor, who’s covering up the secret of what keeps the town together. Might it have something to do with those High Table-looking dudes at the end of the trailer? We’ll find out when Normal opens in theaters on April 17.
