Goat surpasses Wuthering Heights at the weekend box office

Overall box office grosses were down compared to last weekend's Valentine's Day-President's Day double billing.

Goat surpasses Wuthering Heights at the weekend box office

With Valentine’s Day in the rearview and a blizzard battering a good portion of the Northeast, perhaps audiences were less interested in taking a trip to Wuthering Heights. The film’s weekend gross was down more than 50% compared to last weekend, when it opened to more than $30 million. This week, it came second with the animated Goat, which also opened last weekend, beating it out. Goat is Sony’s latest big animated hit, on the heels of Kpop Demon Hunters and the Spider-Verse movies.

It was a softer weekend for the box office in general. The highest-grossing new release of the week, I Can Only Imagine 2, opened to just $8 million across about 3,100 theaters. How To Make A Killing, the latest A24 film which stars Glen Powell, opened to about $3.6 million, and Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley In Concert opened to about $3.25 million. That’s the extent of new movies in the top 10 this week as older releases like Send Help, Avatar: Fire And Ash and Zootopia 2 continue to perform well.

Though the overall numbers are down compared to last weekend’s holiday releases, Deadline notes that the weekend was down about 2% less than it was last week, and that the year to date box office is up ahead of this same time last year by about 7%. This should hopefully be good news for AMC, which just reported a 10% drop in attendance in the last quarter of 2025, per The Hollywood Reporter.
