CBS News' awful Abdul El-Sayed article reportedly had Bari Weiss' hands on it

Obviously, this is not a good article. But it’s not a bad article that merely slipped through the cracks, according to a new report from Status; it’s a bad article that was “personally directed” by editor-in-chief Bari Weiss. Per the report (via The New Republic), Weiss “praised” the article “to the entire network” during a meeting. Though she reportedly didn’t have much to do with the reporting process, she had asked that the “headline be tweaked to specifically mention that El-Sayed had deleted tweets referencing the September 11 terrorist attacks.” Some on staff took up the issue with the standards department but didn’t get anywhere, given Weiss’ involvement. Though one person close to the story claimed that it was not “racist or Islamophobic,” there are, obviously, others in the organization who disagree. As one former staffer said, “the racism is overt.”
