Dakota Johnson's dancing in the dark in the Suspiria teaser trailer

The artfully arranged teaser trailer for Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino’s remake of the 1977 Italian horror classic Suspiria dropped this morning courtesy of Amazon Studios, and it’s got all the grim Eastern Bloc atmospherics and intense eye contact you could ever ask for. The gory scene that shocked attendees at this year’s CinemaCon isn’t present in the teaser, simply a shot of a very large, very intense-looking metal hook. It does give us an idea of the aesthetic direction Guadagnino is taking with the film, though, wisely eschewing the stylized jewel-tone lighting of Dario Argento’s original in favor of grimy realism and shadowy depth reminiscent of another ‘70s horror classic, Nicholas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now. The occult element is, if anything, even more prevalent than before, at least based on this first look.

Suspiria hits theaters on November 2, and stars Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Mia Goth, with a very special appearance by Jessica Harper, star of the original Suspiria. Radiohead’s Thom Yorke composed the score, of which you can get an aural sneak peek in the trailer above.
