Double your Carmichael Show, double your fun

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, March 9. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
The Carmichael Show (NBC, 10 p.m.): Families! Families talkin’ ’bout issues! Did you like that? Those were the new lyrics we just created for The Carmichael Show’s second season. And based on the synopsis for this episode, as well as the great first season, we know that those lyrics will be evergreen: “When Cynthia sees her Reverend with someone who is not his wife, the family comes together to discuss cheating and consequences. Jerrod is shocked when this family discussion reveals that Maxine is no stranger to infidelity.” Joshua Alston begins weekly Carmichael Show reviews with this episode, so don’t forget to ask him about his experiences with cheating. That should be totally fun and not out of left field for him.
(And no, there are not two new episodes tonight. The “double” part comes from it being the second season, although you can catch a repeat at 10:30 p.m. Get with the whimsy.)
Top pick No. 2: American Crime is a really good show too
American Crime (ABC, 10 p.m.): As one show’s second season begins, another show’s second season ends. So here we are, at the American Crime season two finale. 10 episodes and it just doesn’t feel like enough, does it, Pilot Viruet? Luckily, this episode’s synopsis is hella loaded:
“Sebastian gets a taste of his own medicine and is stunned to discover that someone is usurping his cause and releasing emails, texts and other pieces off personal information about numerous Leyland families, initiating a chain reaction that could cause the downfall all of those involved with the events of the alleged sexual assault on Taylor, and everything that has transpired since; Dan and Steph must deal with the fallout of their daughter Becca being arrested for supplying drugs to Taylor the day of the murder; Michael goes to extreme measures to ensure that son Kevin won’t be implicated as being complicit in the beating of Taylor, which doesn’t sit well with Terri; and Chris makes a decision about his future with Marshall High School.”
Also noted
Survivor (CBS, 8 p.m.): “The brutal heat of Kaoh Rong takes a toll on several castaways, and one is medically evacuated from of the game.” We’re not Survivor experts like Carrie Raisler, but couldn’t that technically just be any other episode of Survivor? Especially the first half of the sentence.
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (FXX, 10 p.m.): Yes, another season finale, with “The Gang Goes To Hell: Part 2.” Last week, Mac came to grips with the fact that he’s gay. This week? “The gang gets real with one another in the face of death.” Oh that tells us nothing, Dennis Perkins!
Hap And Leonard (Sundance, 10 p.m.): In “The Bottoms,” we try not to laugh at an episode of a good television show being called “The Bottoms.” We’ll try our best, Brandon Nowalk.
Underground (WGN America, 10 p.m.): On Monday’s What’s On Tonight, your friendly neighborhood What’s On Tonight contributor asked you all if you remembered slavery. She then directed your attentions to Joshua Alston’s pre-air review of Underground, which called the show “a taut thriller disguised as a history lesson.” So now that the show’s finally here, on a pretty stacked Wednesday night, and it’s time to see if it will be another hit for WGN America like Outsiders or if it will go the way of the dearly departed Manhattan.
