If anyone’s suffered more than Drake these past few months, it’s his fans. The rapper’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year continued today with the announcement that he had postponed the four remaining dates of his Australia/New Zealand “Anita Max Win” tour. In a statement to Rolling Stone, reps for the “GIMME A HUG” rapper blamed the withdrawal on a “scheduling conflict,” and promised that they were “actively working on rescheduling these dates along with adding some additional shows.” The statement noted that tickets for the cancelled shows will remain valid whenever the new dates are announced, and refunds will be available as well.
Drake didn’t give any hint as to what this scheduling conflict could be, but for his sake, hopefully it’s something good. The tour, which started earlier this month with 12 sold-out dates before the cancellation, has been a solitary win for the rapper in a sea of losses. He dropped a surprise collab with PARTYNEXTDOOR called $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, which would have been more of an accomplishment if it weren’t so damn cringy. “It’s been easy to make fun of Drake for years, but he practically begs for it here,” The A.V. Club‘s Drew Gillis wrote in his D+ review. That’s not to mention the Kendrick Lamar of it all, which, in an effort not to kick a man while he’s down, we don’t need to relitigate yet again. Drake’s nemesis just called him a pedophile in front of an audience of 133.5 million—the highest viewership for a Super Bowl halftime show ever—so there’s a pretty good chance you were already tuned in.
All that being said, Drake seems determined to land on his feet. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience,” Drake’s team said in their statement. “Drake and the entire team have had an incredible time doing these shows and are excited to return soon.”
