Appearing at a screening of the film in London this weekend, Jones made it clear that a second Warcraft film would follow up on the breadcrumbs laid down by the first one, following the life of orc Moses-figure Thrall, who’s raised as a slave by humans despite his orcish heritage. “So to me the idea over the course of three films would be for Thrall to fulfill that vision of Durotan to create a new homeland for the Orcs,” Jones said, referencing one of the protagonists of the first film. “So in [the sequel] it would be the adolescent years of that baby, and anyone who does know their Warcraft stories would know it’s very much a Spartacus story that goes on with that character.” He also added that “family” is the would-be trilogy’s most important factor, and admitted that “the rest of it is mumbo jumbo names and shit.”
Jones is enough of a realist, though. to acknowledge that this is most likely a pipe dream, saying of his sequel hopes, “There’s no reason for me to believe there’s any likelihood of it happening other than sheer pig headiness.”
