DVD/BD Release List – 08/24/10
If you’ve been waiting until now to start getting into Lost, good news! The complete series is out today on DVD and Blu-ray, in an elaborate box set that includes games, secrets, behind-the-scenes scoops, and a controversial 15-minute epilogue. I haven’t seen the epilogue yet, so I have no opinion on it either way (and no plans to write about it, for those who’ve asked). Warning, though: If you do plan to watch Lost for the first time, you may want to avoid the comments below. Also, don’t sweat the naysayers; the show’s pleasures far outweigh its frustrations.
Speaking of completism, the whole Flight of The Conchords run is out on DVD today as well, signaling once and for all that the show won’t be coming back to HBO or anywhere else. (Maybe.) Finally, one of the most significant DVD sets of the year arrives today as well: Criterion’s set of three Josef von Sternberg silent films, each as stunning in their sophistication and visual invention now as they were in the ‘20s. Full review of that coming tomorrow.
