Elliot Page says he hasn't gotten a job offer since filming The Odyssey

Page has worked relatively rarely in Hollywood since coming out as trans in 2020, with his only major credit before The Odyssey being his existing (and now concluded) role on Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy. Describing the feeling of working for Nolan again (after appearing in Inception back in 2010), Page actually suggested he’s become a better actor in the time between the two films, in part because of transitioning: “I feel like I could maybe, I could do some of my best work now,” he said. “I’m not having to, like, literally work through a performance that I don’t even quite know I’m doing to get to a performance.” He called working on The Odyssey “cathartic,” referring to it as “a full-circle moment.” But as nice as that was, it also doesn’t necessarily either pay the bills or keep the creative juices flowing: When asked by McCarthy whether he prefers big breaks between performances, Page was blunt: “I’d really love to do ideally good work. That’s what I’d love to do.”

As noted by The Wrap, Page hasn’t been the only person who got strong reviews for their work on The Odyssey to then have to admit that other directors don’t have quite such a Nolan-esque vision of them; Samantha Morton, who gives a scene-stealing performance as the witch Circe in the epic, told Happy Sad Confused recently that “I haven’t worked for a year since making The Odyssey, you know, and I’ve got really good agents and a manager, but at the end of the day, I’m 49. I do believe I’m a good actor, [but] there are other good actors out there. Do you know what I mean? So, the politics of the industry has changed massively.”
