Eugene Mirman suffers

Eugene Mirman, the stand-up comic probably best known for his long-running voice role as endlessly musical Gene Belcher on Fox’s Bob’s Burgers, has reportedly been hospitalized after experiencing serious, but apparently not life-threatening, injuries after a car crash in New Hampshire this week. Details of the crash, which happened on Tuesday around noon at New Hampshire’s Bedford Tolls plaza, initially named the driver—and apparently sole injured party—as “Yevginy Mirman”; TMZ later confirmed that the man in question was the well-known comedian.

In case all of that wasn’t shocking enough, it’s also being reported that New Hampshire’s governor, Kelly Ayotte, was on hand to help with the accident for some improbable reason; the governor, with her security detail, apparently came across the wreck shortly after it happened, and she assisted at the scene while a member of her security detail reportedly helped pull Mirman from the wreckage. (We would like to formally swear that we have double- and triple-checked that this is not some sort of bizarre and in-poor-taste April 1 prank, by the way; if it is, it’s one capable of completely hijacking the messaging of the New Hampshire State Police.)

No details about the cause of the single-vehicle accident have been released of yet, but footage of the aftermath, obtained by local news sources, shows the destroyed vehicle with huge gouts of flame coming off of it. Mirman was reportedly trapped inside the vehicle after it collided with a concrete structure, with rescuers pulling him out of the car via the window.

Born in Russia, Mirman was raised in New England, and gained early attention for appearances on shows like Flight Of The ConchordsDelocated, and Home Movies. He’s been a main cast member of Bob’s Burgers since its initial conception, having now starred in 16 seasons (and a movie) of the animated series.
