The people demanded it (?) and Harvard’s resident drumming collective, THUD, delivered. The early-00s trance hit “Sandstorm” by the Finnish DJ Darude can now finally be heard played on Boomwhackers, those plastic tubes of varying lengths that emit distinct tones when whapped against your leg.
This is, of course, a trimmed-down version of Darude’s signature song, eschewing the lengthy intro in favor of the good stuff. That guy on the far right knows what we’re talking about.
This isn’t THUD’s first foray into Boomwhacker arrangements, either. They’re YouTube page is filled with various pop covers, including “Africa” by Toto, “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey, and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. It just goes to show that, if you work hard enough in high school, you can get accepted into a prestigious Ivy League university where you’ll spend most of your time smacking yourself with colorful plastic tubes. The American dream is still alive.
