Both the U.S. men’s and women’s hockey teams won gold medals in Milan at this year’s winter Olympics, but the men’s team quickly opened a can of Trump-flavored backlash after winning. Kash Patel, the Director of the FBI, was seen partying with them in the locker room in a since-deleted video. There was also a viral clip of the team on the phone with the president, who sounds thrilled for the guys and invites them to the State Of The Union while adding, “I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that,” fearing he would be impeached if he didn’t. The comments received laughter in the locker room.
Whether or not that invite was genuine, the women’s team already shot it down yesterday. “Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate,” a spokesperson said, per NBC News. “They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment.” But there are plenty more invitations out there for the gold medalists. Yesterday, Public Enemy rapper and noted fan of Olympic water polo Flavor Flav invited the team for a party, and immediately sounded a lot more enthusiastic and flexible than President Trump did.
“If the USA Women’s Hockey team wants a real celebration and invite ,,, I’ll host them in Las Vegas. Do some nice dinners and shows and good times,” wrote Flav in a post on Bluesky. “I’m sure I can get a hotel and airline to help me out here and celebrate these women for real for real.” In a follow-up post, the emcee shared the “Formal invitation to the hockey team” which appears to have been sent by a publicist. That reads, “If there is an interest for the team to come to Las Vegas and celebrate with Flav – we will figure it out on our end and make it a lovely experience. I wanted you to know that the offer is real and have my contact information.” It concludes, “Flav is pretty flexible on timing except March 14-16.” Maybe Flav’s already got some Oscar plans that weekend.
