Deadline reports that FX has pulled the plug on Tyrant after three seasons, which means we won’t get a chance to see whether absolute power corrupts Bassam “Barry” Al-Fayeed (Adam Rayner) absolutely. Tonight’s season closer will serve as the series finale. FX president John Landgraf bid the show farewell in a statement that acknowledged the “ambitious story” that producers Howard Gordon and Chris Keyser have told over the last three years.
“It’s very difficult to find common ground with other people whose stories we do not know or understand. The creators of Tyrant have done their utmost over three seasons to tell American audiences a tiny fraction of the many gripping, human stories coursing through the Middle East today. We want to thank Howard Gordon, Chris Keyser and their talented team of collaborators, including all the writers, directors, cast and crew, as well as our studio partners at Fox 21 Television Studios, for taking on Tyrant’s tremendously ambitious story with such profound dedication and respect.”
The first season of the show was inconsistent in quality, which could be why Tyrant just never really found an audience. But if you did follow the politics of the fictional Abuddin closely, there’s a chance the nation hasn’t been completely dissolved yet. Fox 21 Television Studios hinted at “interesting possibilities” for the series if and when it moves to some other platform. What’s Netflix got going on these days?
