FX reveals Bastard Executioner plot details in new featurette
FX has released a featurette that sheds some light on what its new series The Bastard Executioner is all about. It would appear that Lee Jones’ titular executioner is a knight who was sent to his death at the hands of marauding Scots, as well as “a deeply spiritual and religious man.” The former knight comes out of retirement after experiencing injustice, making revenge the order of the day.
While not quite HBO, FX has a long history of bloody and violent television: Nip/Tuck famously pushed boundaries with its surgery sequences, Justified featured plenty of bad guys getting shot by Raylan Givens (using mostly CGI blood splatter, unfortunately), and Sons Of Anarchy occasionally displayed a sadistic streak in the way it offed its characters. In other words, expect lots of tattered clothes, dirt, swordplay, and quality kills.
Kurt Sutter’s medieval drama also features Katy Sagal as Annora of the Alders and True Blood’s Stephen Moyer as Milus Corbett, “a Welshman with nothing to lose,” which apparently is a very dangerous thing.
The Bastard Executioner premieres September 15 on FX.
