Get Involved, Internet: Help fund scream queen Linnea Quigley’s directorial debut
Scream queen Linnea Quigley has been entertaining fans of trash cinema for more then 30 years, appearing in such USA Up All Night favorites as Return Of The Living Dead, Night Of The Demons, and Sorority Babes In The Slime Ball Bowl-A-Rama (a personal favorite of this writer). Now, the actress is looking to step behind the camera for the first time with the documentary Extras, a look at “people who go to extreme lengths to be in a movie.”
Quigley has set up a Kickstarter page for the project, which will feature a look at the lives of extras who aren’t necessarily looking for fame, but to simply tell people that they’ve been in a movie. The actress—who started out as an extra herself, receiving her first credit as “Barmaid” in 1975’s Wheeler—will also be talking to folks who worked their way up from being wrangled away from the craft service table by the assistant director to a successful career in film. The documentary will be produced by Jason Paul Collum, the man behind 2011’s Screaming In High Heels: The Rise & Fall Of The Scream Queen Era.
The Kickstarter will cover production costs, including camera equipment rental, travel, and the like. The rewards for backing the project are typical for the most part, and include producer credits, copies of the film, and autographs. One of the more intriguing items on the list is a tarot card reading from Quigley herself for only $500.
The Kickstarter page has 25 days to go, and is at $1,705 of its $16,000 goal at the time of this writing.
