Ghost Rider

Who he is: Ghost Rider, a.k.a. Robbie Reyes

His power: The Ghost Rider is a mystical being who inhabits the body of someone on Earth who has been wronged. The person so possessed becomes almost invulnerable while in demonic form, and gains superhuman strength and a regenerative healing power. He can also create and manipulate fire, often via handheld weapons he transforms into fiery tools. Perhaps most unsettling, he can look into someone’s eyes and see their soul, making a determination as to whether that person is more good or evil on balance, and thereby sparing or ending their life. (He basically burns bad guys to ash at this point. It’s not pretty.) Also? He can make his car into a similarly indestructible blaze of automotive hellfire.

His story: First appearing on Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., the being known as Ghost Rider is revealed to be inhabiting the body of Robbie Reyes, an auto mechanic and underground car racer. After a car accident caused by an L.A. gang that killed Reyes and left his brother crippled, the spirit of Ghost Rider was transferred to Robbie, bringing him back and sending him on a mission of revenge for the accident. Eventually, he was hunted down by Quake, who first attempted to stop his murderous rampages. But eventually, they teamed up to take down some ghostly scientists trying to murder the people who wronged them and to reclaim a book called the Darkhold that contains magic so powerful, it warps the mind of those who read it. (It’s a long story.) Robbie’s uncle ended up going mad with power from the Darkhold, so Robbie sacrifices himself in order to kill his relative, being transported to another dimension in the process.

Played by: Gabriel Luna

Currently, Ghost Rider is: Trapped in another dimension—but it’s one he’s gotten out of before, so it’s probably not a permanent condition.

Where will we see him next? Unknown, unless he reappears before the end of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season four, which began in September 2016.
